Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Preparing for In Class Instruction for 2020/21 School Year
(FORT MCMURRAY, AB – July 23, 2020) As announced by Alberta Education Minister Adriana LaGrange- all Alberta schools will begin the 2020/21 school year under scenario #1 of the Alberta Education re-entry plan.
Scenario #1 calls for the resumption of in-school classes with additional health measures. In this scenario we are able to welcome back all students into our buildings and resume a somewhat normal school day schedule. This involves enhanced cleaning protocols, a degree of physical distancing among students, adjustments to how students enter and exit buildings, and changes to how we manage transitions between classrooms throughout the day.
Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is committed to following all guidelines and directives from the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Alberta Health Services, and Alberta Education to ensure a safe re-entry to our school facilities.
Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Superintendent George McGuigan says we continue to believe that in school is the best place for students to learn, “Our Fort McMurray Catholic Schools team has been working for months developing our plan for relaunch. The focus is on ensuring, to the best of our ability, the safety of our children and staff. We fully understand the nervousness of you, as parents, sending your children back to school. Each school has mental health supports in place to assist. Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is committed, as always, to providing the care and love for our children. We miss them and look forward to their return.”
“The success of the reopening of this province is contingent on all of us doing our part. This is the time to be even more vigilant. When we are physically distancing, washing our hands, and being cognizant of our surroundings- we are helping make sure that we can reopen our schools more safely.” – Cathie Langmead, Board Chair, Fort McMurray Catholic Board of Education
Fort McMurray Catholic Schools has created this Relaunch Guide for the 2020/21 school year. This document is intended to share as much information as possible with our staff and families as we prepare for the relaunch of in class instruction.
