Fort McMurray Catholic Board of Education Trustee Resignation

(FORT MCMURRAY, AB - November 27, 2023) - The Fort McMurray Catholic Board of Education accepted the resignation of Trustee Jonathon Higdon at their regular meeting of the Board on November 27, 2023.

Trustee Higdon shared the following statement:

“This decision does not come easy and after much prayer, consideration and conversation with those close to me this is the decision that has been made. This is not a resignation due to the events that had unfolded earlier this year but has to do with my ever changing work schedule. Due to my work schedule it conflicts with being present for our monthly meetings, community events and inter-divisional events that I truly love to partake in but as it sits currently I cannot commit. I believe that this directly impacts my role as a trustee and the ability to govern to the best of my ability for my constituents.

Thank you to my fellow board members and to the community of Wood Buffalo for electing me into this position. I will continue to be an advocate for Catholic Education and will hold the relationships I have built closely to my heart and look forward to contributing to this community in other ways.”

Fort McMurray Catholic Board of Education Chair Cathie Langmead states, "As the Board acknowledges the resignation of Trustee Jonathan Higdon, we wish to thank Jonathan for his service to Fort McMurray Catholic Schools. We respect his decision in regards to his scheduling commitments due to his work schedule. As a Board of Trustees we remain dedicated to serving the students, staff, and families of Fort McMurray Catholic Schools with utmost care.”

The Board of Trustees has instructed administration to present a report during the scheduled December meeting, outlining the process and procedures for conducting a by-election to fill the now vacant Trustee position on the Board.
